Ingrid Laura MacCartney ’78

Successes in three different careers

Ingrid Laura MacCartney ’78

A zest for adventure, a willingness to take on risk and an appetite for hard work have led Ingrid Laura MacCartney ’78 to success in three different fields: acting, business management and entrepreneurialism.

While at SHS Ingrid showed a similar range of interests and ability, playing in the Whippet band, singing in Choir, playing tennis and filling roles in both high school and community theater productions. She fondly remembers the late Joan Arrington’s senior English class: “It was a pivotal point in my education.”

After graduating she earned three degrees – bachelor’s at Arizona State University, master’s at Alabama Shakespeare Festival via Alabama State and an MBA at Nova Southeastern in Florida.

As an actress she performed on stage, in film and on TV.  She had roles spanning Law & Order, One Fine Day, Crimes of the Heart, A Streetcar Named Desire, Lucille Ball, Musicals to classic Shakespeare.

From 1998-2006 Ingrid worked in theater, then business, rising to a senior operations manager at Pfizer.  She then became an entrepreneur, launching USA Remote Systems which has a team of technology engineers providing computer network support, disaster recovery assistance, web hosting and project management.  Subsequently she has started and leads five other companies with specialties ranging from high technology to marketing.

Says a fellow alum, “From Ingrid’s days in Shelby she has traveled far, both professionally and geographically, and her success reflects well on SHS.”
